Voice Training

Carter Bellaimey is a US-native Dialect Coach based in London. He has BFA in Acting from Rutgers University and an MA in Sociocultural Linguistics from Goldsmiths University.

He has coached actors such as Jodie Whitaker (Broadchurch, Doctor Who), Tom Mison (Sleepy Hollow), Matthew Macfadyen (Succession HBO, Spooks), Alex Hassell (RSC, Suburbicon, Anonymous), and Adam Bernard (Dream Girls - 2017 Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Musical). And actors from TV series such as Narcos, The Last Kingdom, The Get Down, Indian Summers, and The Missing; and from theatrical productions such as War Horse (Lincoln Center), London Wall (Off-Broadway), and Henry V (RSC).

Carter has been coaching professionally since university during which he trained in standard and regional UK dialects at Shakespeare’s Globe. He specialises in coaching UK actors in American dialects ('General American', Southern States [Rhotic/Non-Rhotic], New York, Boston, and The Midwest). He also has worked extensively with American actors to gain and improve their accents of the UK.

Sessions

Carter usually works in 2-hour sessions, but 1-hour is also fine. Sessions are held at Damn Good Voices / The Voice Republic in one of their voiceover studios. This gives the opportunity to do some work ‘on mic’ and record things so you can take it away and work on your learnings.

In the sessions you will cover the various technical aspects of the accent: oral posture, rhythm, pitch, musicality, and vowel changes. You will also listen to clips of actual speakers of the accent and analyse them together to better familiarize ourselves with the intricacies of the accent.

You then work on taking all of that information and applying to the text. Because all of that technical stuff is useless unless it serves your acting and your performance.

PRICING

The standard fee is £75 per hour, plus £25 for the studio (+ VAT) but DGV clients receive a 10% discount on the fee. Each session also includes a detailed breakdown for you to keep, and prepared clips that fit your casting.
